Alla Italia is an abandoned Spa resort for wealthy members of a Belgian town. The resort closed after a new larger, more modern facility opened near by. The main attraction to this place is the interesting Italian themed architecture in the entrance hall which features columns and painted ceilings in a mock Italian style…
Welcome to the derelict Terry’s Chocolate Factory aka The Chocolate works… My 3rd trip to see the titanic staircase at this abandoned Chocolate Factory, thankfully not a lot of change at this place. The staircase is still untouched by the contractors, although I don’t expect it will be long before significant works begin here.
The majestic abandoned Château Du Cavalier sits in the middle of spiralling grounds surrounded by a large wall and metal fencing at the front. There isn’t a great deal of information that I can share on this place except the fact that it has been purchased by a businessman who is hoping to renovate the place…
There is not a lot of information on the abandoned Château de Singes, however since writing my previous report from the visit in March 2014 I have been told that the owner did not vacate quite as early as the 1970’s but that he actually resided here until 2012 when he went into a nursing home…
The abandoned Château de Carnelle is a striking Castle designed for André Philippe Alfred Regnier, Duke of Massa. Utilised as a tuberculosis sanatorium and hospital the castle was finally closed in 1992…
This abandoned Sanatorium goes by many names, Le Sanatorium d’Aincourt, aka Fleurs de Ruine aka Sanatorium du Vexin and lies crumbling in a forest of pine trees next to a new development which rendered the old sanatoriums redundant…
Welcome to the enchanting abandoned Château des Faisans. This beautiful castle which sits derelict in a large grounds was a pleasure to explore. We arrived early morning, the first stop on the “Chasing Brunas Tour”…
The abandoned Sheffield Crown Courts aka Sheffield Old Town Hall stands in centre of Sheffield, England. In the 1990s, these courts moved to new premises, and since at least 1997 to present, the building remains disused. Check out what’s inside…
The abandoned IM Power station Cooling Tower. This place has been on the to do list for ages but its always one location that gets bumped for other spots on our trip… finally we got round to seeing it. Sat over the water from the main buildings of the power station the cooling tower is gigantic…
The abandoned Monastery Mont G. There is not a lot of information about this place that I can share a very large complex the huge chapel is flanked by corridors of rooms used for accommodation and teaching. Visited with Kriegaffe9 and Andy K as part of the ‘missing man tour’ I was really pleased to see the inside of this place, the huge chapel was quite impressive and I quite liked the ground floor corridors which were starting to show signs of decay. Enjoy the photos.
Pensionnat Catholique is an abandoned Boarding School somewhere in France. The place is huge! Complete with a large chapel which shockingly was not located on the ground floor… There was also a large sports hall and lots of sprawling corridors of classrooms and labs. Visited this time with Kriegaffe9 and Andy K as part of the ‘missing man’ tour we spent a few hours here before sunset capturing the really nice light which was streaming through the windows in the late afternoon!
The abandoned but very grand Château Lumiere was built for the descendant of a wealthy tobacco tycoon the Neo-Baroque style building was erected in the early 1900′s. The building is protected and surprisingly appears in reasonable shape considering that information suggests that it has been largely unoccupied since the 1950’s…
The abandoned fairy tale castle, Castle Miranda aka Château de Noisy stands rotting and crumbling atop a large hill in Celles, Belgium. Surrounded by Forest, depending upon how you approach the building you are pretty much on top of it before you can clearly see where it is located…
A sizeable abandoned house built, in an unusual area this Villa was owned by a wealthy business man who had a passion for travelling. Rumour has it the owner was killed when attacked by a group of Koala Bears after they escaped from a zoo enclosure. The house was full of contents giving clues to the previous residents life…
Not a great deal of information on this gigantic abandoned Power Station which is currently undergoing decommissioning. After seeing a couple of reports from some close friends we decided to throw this onto our list for the trip, the first location in fact as an early start seemed appropriate…
The Last of the great Asylums in the United Kingdom to close its doors I believe in 2012. The now abandoned site is quite large and on a scale similar to that of some of the other big asylums in the UK. Due to it being one of the last to close the interior was unsurprisingly very modern and bare with most of the equipment I suspect being moved to functioning hospital and care home facilities shortly after closure.
Birkwood Asylum dates from the 1860’s and closed in 2002. The most attractive of the buildings and the feature of this report is the old Birkwood House which was constructed in 1819 and was a stately home until the 1860’s when an additional wing was added and the Asylum established. Many additional buildings were added over the years within the grounds which are all now crumbling and falling apart while the old stone built stately home remains!
If you want the full history check out the report from the first visit in January 2014: Gartloch Asylum. Briefly, the Asylum was built in 1989, opened in 1896 and then closed in 1996 after functioning as an Asylum, a Wartime supply Hospital and a General Hospital focusing on geriatric care under the NHS…
Home from a European tour for only 24 hours and I was back on the road again… back to Belgium in fact… after receiving a few messages whilst on route home I was told to repack immediately as we were going back for some more FORET!
The abandoned Château Lumiere, Built by a descendant of a wealthy tobacco tycoon the Neo-Baroque style building was erected in the early 1900’s. The property apparently benefits from some historical protections from the government, it has however remained abandoned since the 1950’s and despite several changes in hands no-one has returned to occupy the place…
This unoccupied castle, Château de la Forêt, is a stunning Neo-Tudor style building. Built in 1860 the Castle sits in the middle of a forest with a large estate grounds. The Château is not technically abandoned, From what I have been able to establish the property was left to a group of descendants who are unable to agree upon a single owner…
Built in the 1920’s this abandoned house it quite sizeable and has some nice grounds but one of the more unusual features are a collection of around 7 large crosses which are about 2m in hight and are placed scattered around the house within the gardens.
An old abandoned geriatric Hospital which was previously a sanatorium built in 1957 and functioned for the majority of its history as a hospital for retired and elderly people, this now trashed building still contains lots of wheelchairs a reminder of what the place once was. Shortly before its closure it was been replaced by a newer building which sits directly opposite this now burnt out concrete shell of a site…
The Abandoned Snow Factory! Ever wonder where that cold white stuff comes from in winter? well check out the photos below to find out…
