Saint Cadoc’s Hospital (Welsh: Ysbyty Sant Cadog) first opened in 1906 as the Newport Borough Asylum, and was built to accommodate up to 350 patients. Briefly, the abandoned St Joseph’s College, Upholland is a former Roman Catholic seminary, situated at Walthew Park, Upholland, Lancashire, England. The foundation of the large building were laid in April 1880 and college was opened in 1883. The buildings have recently been deconsecrated following the announced closure of the College which saw the last students leave in 1992.
Villa Crypta is another stunning and empty property in Italy which has a mixture of amazing ceilings which were in extremely good condition and other areas which were clearly falling into disrepair. What sets this Villa apart from the rest is that it has its own small chapel and private family crypt!
Despite my numerous previous visits to St Josephs Seminary due to a combination of alarms and not having a clue where they were the infamous row of sinks had eluded me. On this visit however, we were pretty blessed to find a fault on the alarm system which appeared to have disabled the sirens, we were in luck!

Construction began at the Beelitz site in 1898. Funded by the Berlin State Insurance Company the Hospital was originally called “Worker’s Consumption Sanatorium”. Most of the prominent German architects at the time including Julius Boethke, Fritz Schulz and Heino Schmeiden were involved in the design of the sanatoriums which adopted a Pavilion system much similar to that of some of the Lunatic Asylums in the UK…
At the south eastern part of the Beelitz site you can find one of the most interesting and visually appealing of the Hospital buildings, Zentral Badehaus the Central Bath House. Whilst one of the iconic features of this building is the stunning huge domed room with the sunken T shaped bath, this unaltered example of the original architecture is just one of the many rooms which contain amazing detail retained from the initial build…
