The Alienworks – Turbines

The Alienworks is a relatively small power station attached to an old steelworks which closed some time ago. The site which houses a lot of abandoned buildings also had a large blast furnace but sadly we didn’t get the opportunity to see it up close or climb it… I think that area may be open or opening to the public as part of a museum whereas the rest of the site was earmarked for housing developments. We focused our visit on the main turbine hall which houses a couple of really old small turbines in reasonably good condition. The control panels were pretty unique and there was a lovely staircase leading down to the main turbine floor. Visited with Matt, Darbian and Andy de Kay of Behind Close Doors, enjoy the photos:
