This now abandoned RAF Airbase was for some years under United States Air Force control but later handed back to British RAF control. It was known for housing an early warning mortar detection system. Most of the contents of the base have been strip. The place closed only recently in 2013 so most of the building remain in good condition. The site was used for a short period for Police and Army training which accounts for some of the damage sustained within a group of buildings to the centre of the large complex. The Runway was still in use by a gliding club the the looks of things on the day that we were there anyway. The Hangers are empty but cool.
Our Visit
Visited with Pete and ZeroUE we had a good roam around and covered most of the buildings. Thanks to ZeroUE for the comprehensive tour of the place :). I enjoyed the tower and rooftop climbs and the Maps of Iraq were quite cool to photograph. All in all another good morning out :).
