I’m not going to do a full history on this one just yet, Demolition is well under way with parts of the site completely demolished already. Briefly this old Abandoned Asylum somewhere in the UK was established in the very early 1800’s and closed in the early twentieth century. The Asylum catered for both private and pauper patients partially funded by the government. As with alot of other asylums the primary function of OM was to provide basic medical care and a refuge from society. There are however history of various medical treatments, including the use of various drugs, bleeding techniques and induced vomiting for patients. Evidence still remains of the fact that this place was a secure mental institution. Large cells with limited lights, high windows and secure doors litter the corridors. We found signs on the inside of lockable cell doors which reminded patients that if they were detained there under the mental health act, that they were unable to leave without Doctors permission.
Our Visit
Visited with Mars Lander, Sssshhhh and Luckpants. We had a blast at this place, after camping out in a field the night before, we made our way to the site and after a little effort finally managed to find ourselves inside one of the 2 remaining parts to the site. These initial pictures are in the majority taken within that building which housed the main secure ward with bedrooms, bathrooms and more secure cells.
