This huge abandoned site was constructed in 1958 following the establishment of local mines and collieries in the previous 100 years
From what I have read the majority of the low sulphur high quality coal which was mined at the nearby CWM colliery was processed here producing high grade coke suitable for foundry use. The colliery was closed in 1986 but the coke works continued to function until 2002 when the doors were closed for the final time.
According to local news sources. The land is set for redevelopment, in 2009 Wales online report that the site would by benefiting from 800 new homes, new employment opportunities, a primary school and a significant area of public open space although there was little signs of any activity when we visited.
Visited with Shush, Beardy, Dystopia, Travis, Skanky Pants and Lowri we had a great day here climbing all over the place snapping some decent shots! Most memorable bit has to be climbing the conveyors upto the high building! The view was great!
Check out the gopro footage before the photos below! If you watch carefully you might catch a glimpse of me falling though a rotten steel roof…
If you’ve made it this far… thanks for reading / checking out the pictures. Leave me a comment below or hit the like button to let me know you’ve enjoyed the shots and to encourage me to keep posting more 🙂
Canvas prints and regular prints are available for all of the images above just ask me about prices.
I love your work and really like this footage and the photos you’ve taken up at Cwm Coke. I work for a music media company Burning Chariot Media and I was looking at this using this location for a video shoot. Just wanted to know if you had any issues with security etc Or any advice on how to go about entering?
Thanks in advance
Sorry Stephanie I don’t discuss access details. I am aware there is some security here, I believe we got lucky on our trip!
