Urbex: The Pigeon Church, Belgium – March 2017
The Pigeon Church, a small abandoned church in Belgium. Unassuming from the outside, this Church was actually quite photogenic inside albeit completely full of pigeon poo!

An old decaying Blue & Green chapel in some random little village in Wales, I often remember walking past this one when I was young and wondering what it would look like inside…
The now abandoned Wavertree Memorial Church aka Protestant Martyrs Memorial Church in Liverpool was founded in 1903 and closed in 2004…
The abandoned Loxley chapel was built in Sheffield in 1787 and closed more than 200 years later in 1993. Since then the grounds and graveyards have become overgrown and the building has started to suffer from lack of maintenance and vandalism…
The abandoned Monastero MG in Italy is an empty, large Monastery which sits in walled grounds surrounded by a moat with a bridge to the front gate. Certainly an impressive building from many aspects the design is inconsistent and clearly shows that the building has been added to and extended multiple times in what I can imagine was a long history of this religious site…
The now abandoned Mount St Mary’s Church or the Church of the Immaculate Virgin Mary is a Grade II* listed building and a redundant Roman Catholic church in Leeds. It was founded in 1851 and designed by Joseph Hansom, with extensions by Edward Pugin. It is located next to Mount St Mary’s Catholic High School, Leeds…
My second trip to Greenbank Synagogue aka The Ark in Liverpool. The now abandoned building was constructed in 1936 and was used by an active congregation until 2007 when the synagogue finally closed its doors…
This unoccupied castle, Château de la Forêt, is a stunning Neo-Tudor style building. Built in 1860 the Castle sits in the middle of a forest with a large estate grounds. The Château is not technically abandoned, From what I have been able to establish the property was left to a group of descendants who are unable to agree upon a single owner…
Briefly the abandoned Ushaw College, a former Catholic seminary was founded in 1808 by scholars from English College, Douai, who had fled France after that college had been closed during the French Revolution. Ushaw College had been affiliated with the University of Durham since 1968 and finally closed in 2011 due to the shortage of vocations.
One of the Asylums which I unfortunately missed when it was in its prime. the derelict St Mary’s Hospital aka Gateshead Borough Asylum is now stripped bare and is an active building site. Very little remains of what was once left behind at this place.
Part 2 of this visit to the abandoned Ark Synagogue in Liverpool. Plenty to see at this place and lots of nice light so I ended up with more photos than expected. I hope you enjoy the rest of the report 🙂
An abandoned grade 2 listed Greenbank Synagogue in Liverpool which was built in 1936/1937 and then closed in 2008 when it was given grade 2 listed status. The building is falling into a state of disrepair but was still full of all sorts of contents to photograph…
A little Scottish Chapel. Visited with Baron Scotland and Stussy. I understand this place has taken quite a beating these days alot of statues stolen or removed but still with the right light its alright for a couple of shots 🙂 glad we stopped off…
History I don’t really know a lot of information about this place code named Schola CLXXV. It was a monastery with an attached school and this lovely chapel. Externally, from the main chapel doors, the place looks quite unassuming, however when viewed from the back it soon became obvious how large the place actually was….
I must apologise again for the lack of detail and history on the last report and this one! I hadn’t planned on these visit and so have done very little research into the places! This was a lovely little church which had been very heavily fire damaged but still had some great features to photograph….
Externally the building looks more like a town hall or courtroom building rather than a church and the bell towers appears to have been a later addition perhaps the building may have had a previous function in its history. Unsure how long this one had been abandoned but its certainly becoming worse for wear!
