History<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gray, Dunn & Co the bakers and biscuit manufacturers were founded in 1853 and received a Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria. There is little information about Gray, Dunn & Co in the twentieth century.\u00a0The firm’s factory was built in Stanley Street in Kinning Park in 1862 but destroyed by fire thirteen years later and had to be rebuilt. In addition to biscuits, Gray, Dunn & Co baked cakes and bread at Kinning Park. The company went into receivership on the 29th June 2001 leading to 300 staff being made redundant and the factory became abandoned.\u00a0The Stanley Street factory, which was one of Glasgow’s oldest companies, with a 150-year history, also produced Chocolate Gingers, Chunky KitKats and Caramel Wafers. The production line could make 2000 Blue Ribands a minute.<\/p>\n

Our Visit<\/strong><\/p>\n

The last stop on our tour de Scotland was this huge old biscuit factory, stripped of anything and everything of value, this derelict building is situated in the heart of Glasgow right next to a Major Motorway. One might have thought that would have deterred us from \u00a0hitting the rooftops at around midday on a Sunday afternoon but oh no that was the first stop (photos are at the bottom of the report). I was pleasantly surprised with this place as it lent itself to more photo opportunities that I had expected and a little bit of a fun climb onto the oil tanks in the middle of the courtyard. Thanks to Sickbag for the location and tour and the rest of the gang for making this trip a truly epic one! Cant wait for the next Scottish adventure!<\/p>\n
