My 3rd trip to the abandoned St Johns Asylum in Lincoln. Full history and photos from the first 2 visits can be found in the report from September 2012<\/a>. Briefly the Asylum was built in 1852 and enlarged on several subsequent occasions in 1859, 1866, 1881 and 1902. \u00a0The asylum finally closed in 1989\/1990 and was bought by a property developer a few years later who has converted half of the site into houses but the main asylum buildings are Grade II listed buildings and cant be demolished.<\/p>\n

Our Visit<\/strong><\/p>\n

Visited with just Pete Costello, many thanks for prompting me to revisit this one much happier with my shots from this visit compared to the previous 2! We were shocked to find that our previous entry point had no only been sealed but demolished :0 . Still we remained persistent and eventually found ourselves inside! First stop was the main stairs in the entrance hall, There is no denying these remain the main draw of this place aside from the fascinating arched ceiling supposedly constructed as a sound proofing measure to limit the noise from patients in the wards. As you’ll see below I went a little mad with far too many angles of the stairs this time but what can I say they are appealing to the eye :). Not much in the way of change since last September. Signs of little bits of additional building work but nothing significant. On with the photos:<\/p>\n
