Allinson Mill aka Castleford Stone ground Flour<\/p><\/div>\n

A little wiki history<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr\u00a0Thomas Allinson\u00a0was born in the\u00a0Hulme\u00a0district of\u00a0Manchester\u00a0in 1858. He trained as a medical doctor in\u00a0Edinburgh, graduating in 1879. He founded the first Allinson mill in 1892 in\u00a0Bethnal Green\u00a0as Dr Allinson’s\u00a0Natural Food Company. It was the first to produce\u00a0wholemeal\/wholegrain flour. His slogan was\u00a0Health without Medicine. Allinson was viewed as an eccentric because of his advocation of vegetarianism (in particular of wholegrain bread) and opposition to many medical practices of the time. Two more mills were bought in Castleford\u00a0and\u00a0Newport\u00a0in\u00a0Wales.
\nThe company was joined with six others to form Allied Bakeries by\u00a0Willard Garfield Weston\u00a0in 1935.<\/p>\n

The company has advertised on TV with\u00a0Brian Glover\u00a0declaring it’s\u00a0Bread wi’ Nowt Taken Out. It gave the impression that Thomas Allinson would have had a\u00a0Yorkshire accent, but that would not have been the case.<\/p>\n
