The Bucket House – Nurses Uniform

History

This one has a bit of a sad history to it :(. The house was occupied by a lady who appear to have been living alone until she passed away recently… very recently. Although the house appears like it has been empty for quite sometime, evidence scattered about the place confirmed what we already knew, that the lady had passed away only a matter of months before our visit. We found egg’s and butter in the kitchen which were barely out of date and mail appears to have been stacking up since around March time this year. From what we could gather it appears like the house has been slowly falling to pieces and the lady who owned the place had placed countless buckets around the building in an attempt to stem the flow of water from the leaking roof which appears to have been letting in water all over the place. It was clear that almost every room in the house had been unused for quite sometime including the whole of the upstairs not excluding the bathroom which looks to have been out of order for years. The lady had sadly made the kitchen her home pushing together 2 wicker chairs and covering them with duvets and sheets and this it seems is where she spent most of her time. There was no electric at the property (probably a good thing given the extent of the leaks) which further revealed what poor conditions this lady had been living in. I don’t think we will ever know the full story here, if it was the failings of social services or lack of caring relatives but I cant imagine what it would have been like for the lady living in these conditions. The presence of the nurses uniform in one of the upstairs bedrooms suggests that she was once a nurse presumably with a caring personality, its sad no-one appears to have been able to assist her in her final years.

Our Visit

Visited with Altdayout, sssshhhh, and Pete, Its a small place but with sad history and a fair bit of stuff left to see it provided for some interesting photo opportunities. Not much to tell about the visit, One of many that day but the first success of the trip! On with the photos:

I’m 70 and fortunately still fit n well. None of us could envisage this happening to our selves, but if dementia started to set in who knows? The elderly can be very stubborn, I know my Mum was just before she died aged 88.

Thanks for your comment I hope you stay fit and well for the foreseeable future. Its possible that the lady may have been suffering from such an illness, my mother works with dementia patients… she has some sad storeys to tell sometimes :(.

Sad and compelling photos, people actually choose to live like this, just like some people choosing to sleeping rough.

Hi Lisette, I dont know if this one was a matter of choice or necessity… surely no-one could be happy living in those conditions… I dont think we’ll ever know in this case but definitely a sad storey there somewhere 🙁

As usual fantasic photography.
How very sad..i think about the fact that she was someones Mother or Grandmother.
Looked like she had no one to care for her.

Thanks for the comment! I know exactly what you mean it was very saddening visiting that place! had a lump in my throat when we started to uncover the conditions at the place 🙁 very sad indeed.
