West Park Asylum Asylum Morgue, Mortuary and Histopathology Department – Brain Blocks

For a bit of History and more photos from my first visit to West Park in 2010 check out this post!

Regretfully I never saw enough of West Park while it was still around. Most of the site has now been renovated into new housing and the few remaining buildings are mainly stripped. This little gem however still remains. It seems to have become somewhat of a popular explore these day. I thought it had only recently been discovered however I have since found reports dating back as far as 2008. I arrived with Sam the Mule in tow just as it was getting dark so all the photos were shot with a flash and bounce card (not my preferred method). I’d have liked to have spent longer here and had a bit of a look around during the day but this was the third spot of what turned out to be an epic day of exploring. I ticked of 3 sites which were high on my to do list including 2 morgues! not bad for a days work!

This building was originally built to function as a morgue but later became the Histopathology department where blood and brain samples were collected from deceased patients I can only assume for later examination. Surprisingly some samples were still left and available to photograph.

Hi Gabi,

Thanks for the comment 🙂 Bet there would be some interesting things in the results. I’m pretty sure all the samples are from ex Patients!

PROJ3CTM4YH3M says:

I certainly did mean wouldn’t 🙂 damn typos 🙂 how did you get on?

PM

Sylwia says:

ah okay thanks 🙂 and stopped and searched? that doesn’t sound good :/ was thinking of maybe venturing out there tomorrow :/

PROJ3CTM4YH3M says:

I certainly would deter you from trying, hopefully its not too far of a trip for you. Try and have a backup plan just incase its been sealed and best of luck… let me know how you get on. I’d be interested to know what its like now 🙂

Sylwia says:

I’d like to say your work is brilliant, I was just wondering if during this last trip if you might’ve had the same issues as last time with almost getting escorted of??

PROJ3CTM4YH3M says:

Thanks Sylwia 🙂

This visit did not find us meeting any security. The majority of the buildings have been demolished or converted now there’s only a couple of bits left. I’m not sure how much will be left inside this place or if the building is even still standing. It was a few months ago. Since this trip I have known friends be stopped and searched by police. We might have just been lucky with the weather being deep in snow 🙂
